Instructional Leader and Teacher Interviews

Objective:

To understand and analyze different perspectives on instructional supervision by interviewing leaders and teachers, and synthesizing the findings in a written analysis.

Part I: Leader Interview

Identify and interview a school leader (preferably your own) who supervises teachers on a regular basis (e.g., principal, department head, instructional coach). Retain and submit all interview notes in the appendix.

During the interview, gather information on the following topics:

How the leader approaches instructional supervision (i.e. style, approach, process, preparation…etc.).

The three most important tasks of supervision, according to the leader.

The strengths and weaknesses of the instruments and strategies they use for supervision.

Suggestions for improving the process of instructional supervision.

Challenges they face in fostering faculty instructional improvement.

Recommendations to help you become an effective supervisor of instruction in the future.

Part II: Teacher Interviews

Interview three teachers and ask them to identify what they consider to be the three most important tasks of supervision from their perspective.

Retain and place all interview notes in the appendix.

Part III: Written Analysis

Write a 6-page summary analysis that synthesizes your findings from both the leader interview and the teacher interviews.

Share a summary of interviews.

Compare and contrast the perceptions of instructional supervision tasks from the leader and the teachers.

Discuss any commonalities or differences in their views.

Reflect on what you have learned from the interviews and how it will influence your approach as a future supervisor of instruction.

Formatting Requirements:

Use a professional tone and structure for the analysis.

Double-space your document with 12-point, Times New Roman font.

Include proper headings and subheadings for clarity.

Evaluation Criteria:

Your assignment will be evaluated on the following:

Depth and clarity of information gathered during interviews.

Quality and depth of the written analysis, including your ability to synthesize and compare perspectives.

Professionalism and adherence to formatting and submission guidelines.

Include ALL interview notes in the appendix (not part of page count).

Note: Be respectful and maintain confidentiality when conducting interviews. Ensure that participants understand the purpose of the assignment and provide consent to share their insights in your analysis.
